SUMMARY:Wildflowers\, Scenic Views and Canyon Twists Sunday Cruise
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a spectacular extended Sunday Cruise through some of the most beautiful country in the Columbia River Gorge region — wildflower meadows\, snowcapped peaks\, and the twisting roads of Klickitat Canyon await. \nThe Route \nWe meet at the Bridge of the Gods at 10:00 am and head east on Highway 14 along the Washington side of the Gorge. Our first stop is the Columbia River and Mt. Hood Viewpoint\, reached by climbing Cook-Underwood Road above the river. From there we continue through Underwood back to Highway 14\, cross the White Salmon Bridge\, and turn north on Highway 141\, following the river up to BZ Corner. \nAt BZ Corner we turn onto Glenwood Road\, where Mt. Adams begins to fill the windshield. A midday stop at the Glenwood Station — around noon — gives everyone a chance to stretch and enjoy the views before we continue to one of the route’s highlights: the Klickitat Canyon. We descend through its dramatic twists and turns south to Lyle\, where Highway 14 and the Columbia River greet us again. \nThe final leg takes us west on Old Highway 8 through another wildflower corridor\, rejoining Highway 14 for a scenic run past Gorge viewpoints\, Mt. Hood panoramas\, and vineyard country into Stevenson. We wrap up the day at Clark & Lewie’s Travelers Rest Saloon & Grill\, arriving for a late lunch around 2:30 pm. \nRoute at a Glance \n\nTotal distance: ~145 miles\nDrive time: ~3 hours\nStart to finish: ~4 hours with stops\nMultiple restroom and viewpoint stops along the way\n\nA Note from the Route Designer \nThis route was crafted to catch the Columbia River Gorge at its most dramatic — wildflowers in bloom above the river\, the great white summits of Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood on the horizon\, and the raw\, winding beauty of Klickitat Canyon. Combined with about an hour of travel each way to the Bridge of the Gods\, this is a longer day than a typical Sunday Cruise\, so plan accordingly — and enjoy every mile of it. \nSchedule \n\n10:00 am — Meet at the Bridge of the Gods\n~Noon — Refreshments at the Glenwood Station\n~2:30 pm — Late lunch at Clark & Lewie’s\, Stevenson\n\nEvent Organizer: Heinz Holzapfel \nEvent Stats:\nNumber of Groups: 2 groups of 12 cars\nTotal Miles: 145 miles\nTotal Drive Time: 4 hours \nDigital Navigation Support: \nRidewithGPS link will be provided to attendees with Driving Directions. \nRegistration Information: \nRegistration will close on May 13 at 5:00p.m. Volunteers will be needed for Leads and Sweeps. Please volunteer when you register\, if you are able and willing to accept the responsibilities. \nGeneral Information about this Event: \nRegistration is by car. Each driver must complete the data collection in the registration form. If you have a navigator\, please register that person at the same time.
